..........................................................................................................................................................
Hi, I’m Earl Kaplan, and I’d like to welcome to you to the ‘New Books Are Fun’.

I founded Books Are Fun back in 1991 and was fortunate enough to grow the company successfully throughout the nineties, partnering with sixty thousand schools and over 20,000 business institutions in order to help build school libraries while offering remarkable values and exciting new products at our fairs and displays.  In 1999, I sold Books Are Fun to Reader’s Digest so that I could spend more time with my family. Now, a decade later, I have purchased Books Are Fun back from Reader’s Digest in order to run the company with my brother, Gary; my sons, Steve and Ben; and my nephews, Jason and Joe. It feels good to be back home at Books Are Fun!

People have asked me “What was the secret to Books Are Fun’s amazing success in the ‘90s?” The answer is passion. We truly have a passion for this business. We love the products that we create, develop, and procure. And this passion flows through to our book fairs and displays. When you have people in charge of setting the lineup of merchandise who truly love product, the product offerings convey that same level of excitement to the customer. This is the central focus at Books Are Fun. Our objective is to provide you with the most exciting, in demand product offerings at values you can’t afford to ignore. It is this simple old approach that gives Books Are Fun a fresh new feel.

While it is our passion that keeps this company running, we would be nowhere without the loyalty and undying support of our vendors.  The alliance we share with our vendors is born of our respective passions. They are the best at what they do and we are proud to offer their products on an exclusive basis in display marketing. What this means is that the majority of the products available at our fairs and on display in teachers’ lounges are only available at Books Are Fun and will not be offered by other display marketing companies. These key vendors include Reader’s Digest and Taste of Home cookbooks, Publications International, DK, Penguin, Random House, and many other of your favorite publishers. Books Are Fun also creates a number of exciting interactive toys and books for students and teachers alike.  It is this combination of resources and creative passion that sets us apart from the rest.

Our Reps
Through our nationwide network of sales representatives, Books Are Fun has been partnering with 60,000 schools for many years.  Over the years teachers have grown accustomed to the friendly, personalized service of their local Books Are Fun sales representative.  Each member of veteran sales force prides him or herself on professional and courteous service.  The backgrounds of each of our sales reps have been thoroughly screened to ensure that they are dignified and safe members of the community before they call on your school.

It’s our goal to bring you the very best products that are on the market and to continue to help build school libraries by donating tens of thousands of books to schools throughout the nation.  We have partnered with our rep force and the school systems to donate over $100 million worth of books to school libraries across the United States since 1990.  We have also partnered with our rep force and hospitals and corporations to donate millions of dollars to charities across the globe.

Books Are Fun is renowned for offering the world's best hardcover books, gifts, and educational products at savings of up to 80% off retail prices. Our book fairs and book displays have become known as "North America's Most Popular Employee Event," supplying innovative, premium quality products to corporations, schools, hospitals, and early learning centers throughout the United States.

Books Are Fun has established a longstanding reputation for wholesome, uplifting, family oriented publications. Our formula is simple. We buy huge volumes of the world's best books and gifts directly from top publishers and manufacturers, and sell those products at deep discounts directly to end users through innovative display marketing events. We take it one step further by donating a percentage of the proceeds in books or cash to the sponsoring school or to a designated charity.

School Display Program - Displays of 25 - 30 different books and gifts are placed in the faculty lounges and media centers of schools every six weeks. Teachers and staff members can order the books for their own personal use and enjoyment. Books are donated to the school library based on purchases.

Early Childhood Development (ECD) Program - Book displays are placed in daycare centers, churches, preschools and Head Start centers. Staff and parents can look the books over and order them at their leisure.

Business Display Program - Book displays of 10 - 14 titles are placed in small businesses for employees to look over and order at their leisure.

Since 1990, in conjunction with our network of over 700 independent representatives, Books Are Fun has been responsible for the donation of over $100 million worth of books to schools, organizations and early learning centers throughout North America. In addition, Books Are Fun programs have raised millions of dollars for employee programs and charities.
